The Beginning
Born from a desire to change the African leadership narrative
Kuelimika Kwa Africa was initiated by young people born and bred in Africa. As founders, we understood first-hand the gaps and challenges that arise from poor governance — a reality that has unfortunately persisted for far too long within African states.
We are an organization driven and motivated to change the African leadership narrative. We focus on working with young people because we believe they are the leaders of tomorrow. By focusing on today, we believe the future of African leadership can be positive and impactful.
The Context
Africa's Defining Moment
According to the World Economic Forum, by 2030, one in five people will be African. Combining the continent's soaring population with technology, improvements in infrastructure, health, and education, Africa could be the next century's economic growth powerhouse.
Africa will account for more than half — 54% — of the 2.4 billion global population growth in the coming decades. The United Nations predicts that between 2015 and 2050, Africa will add 1.3 billion people, more than doubling its current population of 1.2 billion.
In 1950, only about 10% of the world's children were African. As part of the continent's phenomenal population growth, UNICEF predicts that 2 billion babies will be born in Africa over the next 33 years. High fertility and improving child survival rates mean that by 2050, 40% of under-fives and more than a third of all children under 18 will be African.
“Africa could be the next century's economic growth powerhouse — but only if we invest in its young leaders today.”
Why We Exist
Closing the Leadership Gap
Kuelimika Kwa Africa has undertaken extensive research and studies to identify gaps where young Africans' potential has not been fully enhanced in existing programs run by similar organizations.
As founders, we also realized that a number of programs don't have a follow-up system to guide young Africans in practicalizing and making effective use of the knowledge acquired. We believe that Kuelimika Kwa Africa will provide an adequate avenue in which young Africans can champion their cause — placing emphasis on the actualization of their full potential while embracing their identity as Africans.
Kuelimika Kwa Africa therefore has a very important role in ensuring the hopes, dreams, and aspirations of Africans today and tomorrow are taken care of — by empowering young Africans to propel their nations and the whole continent to meet its full potential.
